"Exalting the Savior, Equipping the Saints & Evangelizing the Sinner"

    Ephesians 4:10-15

He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

Other Information

On a weekly basis, the mission of the Children/Youth Ministry is to present age appropriate Bible based lessons and stories that generate discussions about God’s word and how we can effectively apply it to our lives. While the atmosphere on Thursday may be more relaxed, young people are more inclined to really dig into the Bible and ask questions that require brainstorming and searching the scriptures for answers. It also requires that leaders present lessons that young people can relate to.

The Ministry exposes young people to cultural and educational events such as the symphony, museums, and plays, while not ignoring our African American Heritage and culture. African storytellers and crafters unique to our community and culture visit the Ministry from time to time. Discussions about past and present leaders and our history take place not only in February but also throughout the year.

Young people are encouraged to explore their creativity by participating and receiving direction in drama productions (plays written by one of our own youth leaders). Those young people talented in the musical arts are encouraged and given many opportunities to share their gifts with the Ministry and entire Congregation throughout the year.

The Ministry also understands the importance of young people simply enjoying themselves and having fun, so the Ministry plans several outings a year such as: trips to amusement parks, church sleepovers, picnics and skating and bowling parties.

The Ministry emphasizes the importance of witnessing and inviting other young people to participate in this Ministry. We make a special effort to invite those young people in the surrounding community who are not members and don’t attend our Sunday school to become a part of this Ministry. We pray that through our teaching and example, they will develop a relationship with Christ and become a faithful member of the church.

It is our desire to build a program through which God is shaping lives for adulthood and eternity.
